Pride Month

PRIDE Month

Recently The Mind Eclectic celebrated PRIDE Month in Casper, WY by sponsoring a booth at the “Pride in the Park” event.  Over 20 booths were a part of the incredible festivities.  For those of you who don’t know much about PRIDE month, it is a celebration of the Stonewall Uprising that occurred in 1969 in Manhattan, NY. This year Casper PRIDE and Casper PFLAG chapter worked effortlessly in planning and organizing several events and activities for folks.  There was entertainment of all types for all ages for 5 days and culminated with a march through downtown Casper.  Casper PRIDE reported that there were 1200+ attendees from 9 states and 13 Wyoming towns, and they estimated 150+ volunteer were spent working on the event.  A big THANK YOU to all of those in the community who worked so hard to create this celebration!  Also, a big thank you to Sharon who assisted with the booth for The Mind Eclectic

Dr. Jen and Sharon working the Mind Eclectic booth at Casper’s Pride in the Park, June 2019.

We had so much fun visiting with individuals and meeting people from across the state.  The theme of Casper PRIDE 2019 was “Trailblazers” to commemorate those individuals who sacrificed and worked to make being GLBTQ+ a celebration of spirit and acceptance, rather than fear and persecution.  It was an incredible experience to see so many people of all ages and colors celebrating diversity, and being a part of the magic of coming together for a common cause.

Talking about magical…The Mind Eclectic gave away free rainbow unicorn key rings at the “Pride in the Park” event.  It was a wonderful way to celebrate the magical spirit of who we are and what we are capable of accomplishing if we set our minds to achieving our goals.

“The most difficult thing is the decision to act,

the rest is merely tenacity.

The fears are paper tigers.

You can do anything you decide to do.

You can act to change and control your life;

and the procedure, the process is its own reward.”

Change of Seasons

Spring is in full swing, and Summer is coming upon us!  A time of change and transition from spending time indoors to being outside.  Several studies report the benefits of immersing ourselves in nature and being outdoors.  In fact, some doctors are writing prescriptions for patients to spend time outdoors as part of their treatment for various chronic illnesses.  Research shows that spending time outside in nature improves physical and mental health overall.

Twenty minutes a day in nature, whether it be a walk or even sitting outside, reduces stress hormones or the cortisol levels for individuals.  In addition to a reduction of stress, spending time outside also contributes to many other factors such as: strengthening the immune system, improving focus and memory, calming the mind, improved vision, lowering blood pressure, weight reduction and a healthier diet, better sleep, less pain, and most importantly increased longevity.

“Nature Deficit Disorder” is a term used to describe a developing trend of spending less time outside and more time indoors, especially for children, but for adults as well.  Children today are spending more time indoors engaged with electronic media than outdoors engaged with nature.  In fact, one study found children knew more Pokèmon characters than names of plants or animals in their neighborhoods.  How much time are you spending inside engaged with social media vs. outdoor activities?  When was the last time you took a walk in your neighborhood or local park? Can you visualize it, or remember the sounds and smells associated with it.

Simply put, ”Grounding” or connecting with the earth and nature actually increases our electrical energy fields or vibrational flow which in turn makes us feel and perform better.  Let this be a time of immersing yourself in the outdoors, of reconnecting to nature.  Make some time to play in the dirt whether it be realistically or metaphorically while you are outside.  You will definitely notice the difference, and enjoy the next few months much more!

Feel Better: Improve Your Vibrations

by Dr Jen

Recently, at the Casper College Wellness Conference I spoke about how at a quantum level we are a collection of energy particles in constant vibration.  From our thoughts and emotions to our physical actions, we constantly create different levels of vibration that impact us inward and resonate outward.  Energy Psychology is a branch of psychology which deals with these same concepts.  It is a:

“Mind-body approach to understanding and improving human functioning” which “focuses on the relationship between bioenergy systems, neuro and electro physiological processes, and mental functions involving thoughts, emotions, sensations, and behavior”       Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology.

The thoughts we think, the emotions we feel, the actions we take, the food and drink we consume, the environment we place ourselves in, the people we are around and interact with – all impact the energy and vibrations we are creating within our bodies and putting out to the universe. Being more aware and conscious of our vibrational frequencies is fundamental in how we experience and make our realities.   This chart displays the various emotions and frequency rates we typically generate.

If you are dealing with depression or doubt, feeling anxious or stressed, or just “out of sorts”, then it might be a good idea to begin doing some things to increase your vibrational frequency.  There are several things you can do to increase it; and feel more positive, confident and in harmony with your environment.

One of the first things you can do is become aware of your physical self.  A healthy diet and sufficient water intake are important factors in maintaining physical well-being.   Also, engaging in physical activities and getting enough sleep on a daily basis are essential in keeping your metabolism operating at an optimal level.

In addition to taking care of your physical self, it is important to be conscious of your emotional self, your thoughts and feelings.  What kinds of mental messages are you creating for yourself?  Are you holding onto negative messages or striving to focus on positive messages?  Are you taking time out to meditate and focus on your breathing, even if you take 5 minutes during the day makes a tremendous impact.  Here is a simple process for meditation to help you get started.  Another idea is to make a mental gratitude or acts of kindness list at the end of each day; try a list of 3, or if not at least one.  Think of what you are grateful for or acts of kindness you did unselfishly during the day.

It is also important to think about your surroundings and environment in maintaining a healthy vibrational frequency.  Look around your living and working space.  Are they replenishing or draining your energies; are they chaotic or peaceful?  Think about how the space is furnished, the colors, lighting, etc.  In addition to examining your indoor environments; make an effort to spend some time outdoors on a regular basis.

Originating in Japan, and spreading across the globe is “Forest bathing” or Shinrin-Yoku which is immersing yourself in the outdoors.  It has been shown to improve one’s health by strengthening the immune and cardiovascular systems, along emotional and cognitive functions.  Research has shown that just as little as 10 minutes or longer, at least three times a week on a regular basis, in an outdoor place (even in an urban setting) can have tremendous impact on our stress reduction. Being outside is of incredible benefit to you in so many ways and on so many levels, whether it is in a rural area or urban setting.

Above are some basic factors to incorporate into your daily routines to help you get the most out of life.  The key is being aware of your vibrational frequency in able to perform at your best, and to feel competent and content to deal with the world around you.  Try some of these suggestions out, and let me know how it works!

Energy, Frequency, Vibration: Emotional and Therapeutic Trends

“We are slowed down sound and light waves,

a walking bundle of frequencies tuned into the cosmos.

We are souls dressed up in sacred biochemical garments

and our bodies are the instruments through which our souls play their music.”

-Albert Einstein

This is the title of my co-presentation at the recent Casper College Wellness Conference on April 10, 2019.  The presentation explored current trends regarding energy, frequency and vibration in relationship to emotional states of being and incorporating them into the therapeutic environment.  While preparing for this topic it was exciting to see all of the recent attention focused on energy psychology and quantum physics.

We are “walking bundles” of energy!  Our beings, our souls are constantly emitting and absorbing the particles around us.  We are a collection of vibrations interacting with the vibrations around us.  We are influenced by the energies of our environment while instantaneously shaping our reality.  As Nikola Tesla said, “If you wish to understand the Universe, think of energy, frequency and vibration.”  And, I might add if you wish to understand “Yourself”, think of these same forces interplaying with who you are and how you define yourself.

The Mind Eclectic is going to start a new, free activity for those who are interested in these types of topics and on overall self-improvement.  Every other week beginning May 7, 2019 there will be a small “Gathering Group” on Tuesdays from 5:30pm – 7:00pm.  This will be a time to explore various topics and have discussions around who we are and how we want to define ourselves.  We will be doing everything from coloring sheets to different hand’s on activities each time to sharing ideas, thoughts, books, information, etc. focused on our beings, our souls and how to better understand and appreciate our realties.
